Emoria remembers Tim Curry
Remembering Tim Curry. 🤍 He was an actor, a singer, and one of the most distinctive voices in film. Born in 1946 in Grappenhall in the English county of Cheshire, the son of a Methodist chaplain, he lived in Los Angeles for many years. 🎭 In 1968 Tim Curry stood on stage in the musical Hair, where he met Richard O'Brien, the author of The Rocky Horror Show. He played O'Brien's eccentric scientist Dr. Frank N. Furter first at the Royal Court Theatre in London, then in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. More than 50 years on, the film is still being shown in cinemas. 🎈 In 1990 he became the nightmare of a whole generation as the demonic clown Pennywise in Stephen King's It. In 1992 he played the concierge of the Plaza Hotel in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. 🎤 As a singer Tim Curry released albums like Read My Lips from 1978 and reached the US charts with I Do the Rock and Paradise Garage. On Broadway he played King Arthur in the musical Spamalot in 2005, then in London's West End. 🗣️ His voice stayed in demand to the very end: he spoke Chancellor Palpatine in the series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Professor van Helsing in the audiobook Dracula, which won an Audie Award in 2012. 📖 In 2025 his memoir Vagabond was published. In September 2025 Tim Curry sat in front of his fans at a Q&A for the 50th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Los Angeles. 🕊️ On 25 August 2026, in Los Angeles, a life of 80 years came to an end. What remains: • The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) • It (1990) • Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) • Spamalot (2005) • Vagabond: A Memoir (2025) Thank you for everything, Tim Curry. Forever remembered. 🕯️ 📷 Photo: “Tim Curry at the 47th Emmy Awards Governor's Ball” by Alan Light, 11 September 1995 (cropped), via Wikimedia Commons - CC BY 2.0, creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/ 🎵 Music: “Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op. 46: II.
